Our client turned to TDS to help build out a 750,000 sq. ft. data center in the Mid-South

Executive Overview

Our client is a leader in Artificial Intelligence platforms, and in late 2023 was able to secure a massive decommissioned factory adjacent to an electrical substation in a growing part of the Mid-South. The plan was to subdivide the space into 9 separate data halls, and work to build them out as equipment and resources became available.

The Challenge

The data center retrofit of the factory called for the project to be developed in stages, with the goal to have 8 data halls completed in 2024, with the remaining coming on line throughout 2025. The deployment would include large-scale High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters driven by powerful GPU servers. Each of the 9 data halls would contain 300+ cabinets, hosting more than 25,000 GPUs – and supported by an additional 20 network cabinets on the perimeter of each data hall.

The Solution

Working with the IT, Network, Facilities and Client Senior Management, TDS established a 20 person task force to work 12 hour shifts around the clock to complete the 8 data hall deployments in 8 weeks as the equipment was finally racked and ready for commissioning. This included fiber labeling, patching, testing, remediating and certification. In all, our team pulled more than 250+ miles of fiber, including patch cords and cross-connects.

The Results

The TDS process is now the standard for this client as they continue to buildout the 9th data hall. Today TDS remains on-site providing a level of continuity and best-practices for this critical roll-out.
